Are you able to do your best work these days?
If not, you’re not alone—and if you’re facing burnout in leadership without support, that might be why.
Increasingly, even the most capable and visionary leaders find themselves overwhelmed by the relentless pace and pressure of their roles. It rarely happens all at once. Instead, it creeps in quietly-persistent fatigue, the nagging sense of always being behind, strained relationships, systems that just can’t keep up, and financial worries that linger long after the workday ends.
I recently caught up with a former client who’s been recovering from a long, deep burnout. The kind that isn’t solved by a weekend off. The kind that requires time away, nervous system repair, rebuilding self-trust, installing new systems and boundaries, and being resourced in new ways.
Do any of these early warning signs sound familiar?
- Feeling exhausted most days, no matter how much you rest
- Numbing out or feeling disconnected-like you just can’t care anymore
- Relationships fraying, with little energy left for real connection or growth
- Struggling to be fully present or to focus on what matters
- Outgrown systems and processes, but no bandwidth to redesign or improve them
- Ongoing financial uncertainty, with solutions always just out of reach
If you recognize yourself in any of these, you’re not alone-and you don’t have to navigate it alone, either.
Why does coaching matter? Because, unless you break this pattern—something breaks in you.
Several of my clients and colleagues have faced this kind of leadership burnout in the past few years. Not the kind a vacation can solve. The kind that requires months (sometimes years) to repair. The kind that causes partners to intervene. The kind that causes you significant risk and setback.
Burnout like that doesn’t come from a lack of grit. It comes from repetitive strain over time, without the necessary resources, relationships, and structures to support you.
And it costs people dearly.
Their vitality. Their vision. Often their health.
A couple of years ago one client’s partner said to them (repeatedly):
“This job is going to kill you.”
That client is still alive, by the way—and doing extremely well. Not because the job magically changed, but because they got the right support when it mattered most. They took care of themselves: invested in therapy and coaching, rebuilt their systems, reconnected to their purpose, and made new boundaries around their work.
We’re all tired of hearing how uncertain these times are. But one thing is certain:
This is not the time to be going to battle at work, alone. Burnout in leadership is an enterprise risk you need to mitigate.
If you’re employed, use your benefits.
Book the therapy. Get the coaching.
Find your people and set up the structures that keep you steady.
It doesn’t matter who you are or how accomplished you are.
You’re human.
You need to be seen, heard, & supported.
Anything less will break you inside until something on the outside breaks.
If you’re near that edge—or already past it—reach out.
Let’s talk about what kind of support would help you feel anchored and energized again.
Anything less is a slow road to burnout.
I know, because I’ve been there too. I am always learning. I sought therapy and committed to a coaching relationship that helped me come back to myself—and rewire how I lead, work, and show up. Now it’s your turn.
If you’re ready to feel resourced, clear, and grounded again—
Let’s talk. I’d love to help you explore what kind of support will make the biggest difference right now.

Working with Stina has been transformational in so many ways. I first brought Stina on to facilitate a team-building retreat with my fundraising team.
